Bishop Libby at St Cross!

Libby-wwWe look forward to welcoming Bishop Libby to St Cross on the morning of Mothering Sunday! Bishop Libby, the Bishop of Stockport in the Diocese of Chester, was the first woman ever to be consecrated as a Bishop in the Church of England. We are very excited that she has been able to find time, in her very busy diary, to come and share a morning service with us.

The service is at 10:30AM on Sunday 6th March 2016 at St Cross Church, Appleton Thorn. For further details, please phone the vicarage (01925 730276).

Carol Service: Sunday 13th December 2015

Anyone who couldn’t make it to St Cross Church on the evening of 13th December missed a very special occasion.  I think we all went home tingling from an evening which included beautiful singing from the joint choir and music which reflected modern works, and also brought a flavour of ‘the olden days’ with a small group of young musicians and all the well-known carols, which we sang heartily.  The musical arrangements were very skilfully brought about by Rose Jewell.  Representatives from the local community read the Bible readings; from the primary school, the prison, pre-school, nursery and Parish Council as well as a Churchwarden and a faithful member of the Sunday Club.

The whole event was a great pleasure; lots of smiling and congratulations followed.  If we weren’t warm enough from singing, there was the traditional mulled wine before we made our way home.  Well done everybody!!

The Church was beautifully decorated, too.  The school children, pre-school, nursery and Sunday Club had adorned small Christmas Trees, and their contributions are gratefully received.

Joan Shaw, on behalf of St Cross congregation.

St Cross Christmas Fayre

Our Fayre was opened by our church warden Kath Fowler, who introduced several children from Appleton Thorn choir who sang carols beautifully for us. I would like to say Thank You to everyone who donated, helped and supported the Fayre it turned out to be a really good afternoon, lots of new and friendly faces. We welcomed the gardeners from YOI who brought a colourful array of plants and planters to sell.

After the raffle was drawn, the 200 club was drawn, which is run by Mr Syd Edwards

More new members would be welcome, congratulations to all who won. Lots of generous spending and a well-earned cup of tea and cake afterwards earned our church funds with a grand total of £834-39.

Many Thanks,

May Bratherton.
