On Friday 3rd February we welcomed the Rock-A-Hula ukulele group. They are all members of Warrington U3A and have been playing together for about 3 years. As well as performing for local care homes, the ukulele group has appeared at the Stockton Heath Festival, the Burtonwood Beer Festival, and managed to sell out a gig at Warrington’s Pyramid hall.
They describe themselves as ‘retirees recreating their youth through music’ and much of their repertoire is from the 50s. They gave us a very enjoyable singalong evening, and Alan, the vicar – no mean ukuleleist himself – was allowed to sit in with the band and even perform a solo. Kevin and Liz McAloon arranged for the concert to take place at St Cross – Kevin is a member of the Rock-A-Hulas – and the evening was a sell-out, meaning some people who asked for tickets late in the day were disappointed. Hopefully, we’ll ask them to play for us again another occasion.
